Short Fiction Commissions

Do you have a great idea, an original character, or a roleplaying group? A story worth telling, but you just don't know how to get it right?

I am willing to help you tell that story.

What This Service Offers:

I will take information that you provide and use it to write a short fiction piece, ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 words, as per your request. I will use as much or as little initial input as you offer to craft a first draft, and will provide one round of formatting, and copy and content editing based on critique you offer upon reading said first draft.

After that? The story is yours! You will receive a .doc file that you are free to share on your Tumblr, your own website, or to whomever you like (with proper credit given to yours truly)!

What I Will Write:

My background is primarily in fantasy and sci-fi, but I am not above working within any genre. This said, there are some stipulations as to what I will not write:

  • No erotica (romantic/sexual themes within the piece are fine, but will not be gratuitous)
  • No depictions of exploitation/abuse toward children or animals
  • No preexisting intellectual property (no fan-fic)
  • No real people, alive or dead
  • No work depicting any manner of abuse or discrimination in a positive light

Further, I reserve the right to refuse any commissions on a case-by-case basis.

What Does It Cost?

Commissions cost $0.02 per word, including editing and formatting. Upon acceptance of commission, I will ask for half the cost upfront, based on your requested length (this is non-refundable). Half the remainder will be due upon completion of the review draft, and the remaining balance will be due upon completion of the final draft. I will not go above the agreed-upon word length except by request, at which time price increases must be reconciled before I continue work on the story.

How Long Will It Take?

Turnaround will depend on length, but realistically I ask for no less than a week per 2,000 words, so anywhere from one to five weeks.

Why Should I Write Your Story?

I have authored four full-length novels and several pieces of short fiction. My debut novel The Summerlark Elf was a competitor in Mark Lawrence's Self-Published Blog-Off, and my 2016 release The Council of Tymenthia is currently eligible for the 2016 Aurora Award for Best Novel. Presently, I have a sci-fi short in the second Brave New Girls anthology, and am working within Ed Greenwood's Stormtalons high fantasy setting.
